STORM ALERT: What to do?

3/21/2022 (Permalink)

Tips and Action Steps

There have been unprecedented heavy rains in the area, as of late. No one expects there to be flooding, especially those living on a hill or on top of a bluff. But as we have seen in the last several weeks, few have been spared from the damage of water and flooding. Several safety tips that would be helpful after flooding are:

  1. Establish an evacuation plan in advance. Make sure all employees or family members are safe. Assign select individuals to keep lists of select teams with names and contact numbers.
  2. If water were to enter the building or home and evacuation becomes impossible, move to an upper floor, and wait for rescuers.
  3. Avoid driving through floods or rising water, nearly half of all flash flood fatalities are auto-related.
  4. Don't ever touch electrical equipment if you are wet or standing in water.
  5. Do not walk through moving water. Even just six inches of moving water is enough to make you fall.
  6. Avoid contact with floodwaters. Water may be contaminated by oil, gasoline, or raw sewage.
  7. Listen to the local news reports to learn if the community’s water supply is safe to drink.
  8. You may return to your home or business only when authorities indicate it is safe.

Should you experience floodwaters in your home or business, it is important that you call the areas local Storm remediation experts.
